How to Create a Unique Color Palette
Often times the most daunting step in the design process is choosing a color palette. However, designing with fun and interesting colors, that represents your aesthetic, doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some basic guidelines to help you choose a color palette you love and design the home of your dreams!
Draw Upon Nature:
The first step in choosing a color palette is to take into consideration the landscape which surrounds your home. Beautiful color palettes are often inspired by nature: Sunrises, beaches, mountains, and desert landscapes all provide unique color inspiration. Bring the outdoors in and embrace the natural landscape of your home.
The Psychology of Color:
Color can play an important role in conveying information, creating certain moods, and even influencing the decisions people make. Different colors can convey different emotions; therefore, it is important to take this into consideration when choosing a color palette for your home. First, determine the overall mood for your home, then choose colors that support your decision. For example, if you want your home to feel relaxing and tranquil, a rich blue may be a good option. If you want your home to feel happy and energized, then try a yellow or orange.

Monochromatic Color Scheme:
Monochromatic design is based on one color. Using variations of a single hue and refining the chosen color in different ways, creates a livable space that captures the essence of harmonious design. Monochromatic color schemes can be as bold or as neutral as desired by controlling the color intensity. There is no such thing as too much or too little!
Analogous Color Scheme:
Analogous colors sit next to each other on the color wheel. Because of this, an analogous color palette will be either warm or cool depending on the colors chosen. Choosing an Analogous theme makes creating a color palette easy! Simply choose the three adjacent colors that you like best and you are set.
Draw Inspiration from Art & Photography:
Have a favorite piece of art? Let it become the focal point of your design!
Choose colors that compliment the piece that you wish to incorporate into your home. Make your statement piece pop by designing with neutral colors to avoid distracting from your focal point. Add small amounts of color around the space to tie everything together and you’re done!
