Hour Tour: Big Sky Project

Alder & Tweed’s project located in Big Sky, Montana is one of our favorite examples of Mountain Modern design. It encompasses the surrounding environment by incorporating natural elements of stone and wood throughout the home. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding mountains, our designers were able to take a rustic esthetic and put a modern spin on it.
Organic design was the focus in this home, as demonstrated in the entryway pictured above. By bringing the exterior stone inside and pairing it with this textured contemporary wood console table, you can achieve that perfect blend of rustic and modern design.
In this home we really wanted to accentuate the warmer tones and layered textures in the main gathering areas such as the living room, kitchen, and dining room. In the living room we featured a more modern rustic chandelier and paired it with a more contemporary stone hearth fireplace, comfortable furniture, and textured pillows. It’s important to open up these spaces allowing for larger parties and easier flow from room to room. The greatest feature in the kitchen is the large island, perfect for small and large gatherings.
The elemental features on the exterior of this home easily flow into the inside with the many wood accents and stone walls. This brings that outdoorsy atmosphere into the home, making it feel more rustic and traditional with the addition of modern features. Each bedroom is layered with a lot of texture through incorporating different patterns and fabrics. While many of these bedrooms include more earthy and neutral tones, our designers added pops of color, wallpaper, and unique art to bring variety to each room.
The basement includes a large family room, game area, and bar perfect for hosting. We incorporated pops of bright colors mixed in with the natural colors, to bring a sense of excitement to the space. As you can see below, the family room is layered with contrasting elements and bold prints with the combinations of the rug, coffee table, throw, pillows, and wallpaper, creating a fun atmosphere for casual entertaining.
