7 Moody Spaces Inspiring Us This Fall
As the weather cools and the days grow shorter, we’re beginning to crave cozy fall interiors. We love the warm, luxurious, and sophisticated look of a moody space. There is something especially impactful about a darker color palette during cooler autumn and winter months. So, to pay homage to the changing of the seasons, we’re reminiscing on seven of our favorite moody spaces that beautifully combine deep colors, striking patterns, and luxurious textures.
Look No. 1: Tailored Details
We love the look of this sophisticated bedroom. The moody color palette, paired with a bold pop of yellow is giving us all the fall vibes. The tall mirrors above the nightstands help to expand the space and elongate the ceiling height which is especially useful in a moody room.
A detail that we find especially striking is the subtle tartan pattern on this upholstered headboard and the way it plays against the dark textured wallcovering. This sophisticated print adds so much personality to this space and gives it a dark academia feel. The layered textures on the bed create depth and add to the cozy feeling of this room.
Look No. 2: Texture is Everything
We are obsessed with this black on black wet bar. When using a monochromatic color palette, it is important to pay special attention to texture and how it can break up the materials to create an interesting design. Here, our design team chose a backsplash that mimics a natural wood grain texture that stands out beautifully against the honed black countertops. The riveted copper sink is the textural cherry-on-top detail that makes using this space such a special occasion.
Look No. 3: High-Contrast Kitchen
Isn’t this gorgeous kitchen to die for? The dark cabinet paneling creates a beautiful contrast with the light gray hardwood floors, white marble countertops, and the gorgeous rustic wood ceiling. We love this color palette because it creates a moody look and feel without compromising the natural bright light in this space.
Another area in this space that enhances this high-contrast theme is the gorgeous mural-like wallcovering. Smoke, by Phillip Jeffries, worked beautifully in this space because it acts as a giant piece of artwork. The sheer scale and grandeur of this wallcovering makes it perfect for use in large spaces.
Look No. 4: Autumn Greens
Moody spaces don’t have to be only black. Here, our design team selected this gorgeous eel skin-inspired wallcovering to deepen the color palette of this bedroom and to add texture to the walls. We love how this deep and vibrant olive green color stands so beautifully on its own while totally transforming the look of the entire space.
Look No. 5: Warm Neutrals
What makes this dark kitchen so special are the warm undertones emanating through the cabinet stain and wood paneling on the ceiling. When creating a moody space, you want to make sure you add in some kind of warmth, either through texture or color, so that the space doesn’t feel too stark and cold. Our design team opted to use the natural golden hue in the wood to promote warmth in this space and preserve the organic beauty of the materials selected for this project.
Look No. 6: Dreamy Mountain Home
Doesn’t this home remind you of an enchanted forest? The organic color palette combined with dark grays and greenery keeps this space feeling natural and grounded. We adore the whimsical feel that the crystal chandelier brings to the space and the lovely texture brought in through the stone and wallcoverings.
Look No. 7: Monochromatic Mastery
We are enamoured by the simple sophistication of a black on black design. Our design team took a risk by using such an inky color palette, but everything came together in a strikingly beautiful way. Monochromatic design makes a powerful statement in a room and allows for a greater range of contrasting tones that can be used to attract attention and create focus in other areas of the home.
